The Power of Inner Healing Prayer
How is inner healing different from traditional therapy?
I think this video sums it up well.
How is Divine Encounter different from other inner healing ministries?
Divine Encounter is a blend of modalities based on Immanuel Prayer and HeartSync, but includes elements of Life Model Works, Transformation Prayer Ministries, and Internal Family Systems.
Divine Encounter supports a type of ministry that focuses on the individual parts of the heart.
What do you mean by parts of the heart?
HeartSync describes four primary parts or aspects of the heart, which correspond to different areas of the brain and make up the core human personality. These parts are:
True Self
This is the aspect of the heart and mind that has the strongest capacity to connect with God[3]. It is also referred to as the Original Self or Identity Center, overseen by the Orbital Prefrontal Cortex[1]. In a healthy person, the True Self can move freely and is not obscured by other parts[1].
Function
This part is responsible for daily functioning, thinking, learning, language, and beliefs[1][3]. It is overseen by the Left Pre-frontal cortex[1]. The Function part often stays disconnected from painful memories to continue operating effectively[4].
Guardian
The Guardian aspect stands between Function and Emotion, helping to maintain healthy boundaries[1][4]. It believes that Emotion and Function must be kept apart to prevent overwhelming the Function part[4]. In trauma or attachment-based disorders, multiple Hidden Guardians may develop, each with specific defense mechanisms[1].
Emotion
This part processes and feels emotions[2][4]. It is most closely connected to pain, trauma, and unresolved emotions[4]. The Emotion part is associated with the right brain[1].
HeartSync aims to synchronize these various aspects of the heart, bringing them into full relationship with God and each other to achieve wholeness and healing[3][4].

Is Divine Encounter gentle?
Yes, Divine Encounter is strongly based on both Immanuel Prayer and HeartSync, both of which are well know for being gentle and respectful.
We move slowly in sessions and are very mindful to be respectful, gentle, and honoring.
How long is a typical session?
A typical Divine Encounter session is 90 minutes long.
What can I expect in a typical session?
A session may begin with general discussion of any relevant background issues or specific objectives for that session.
Next we’ll typically pray a general prayer of thanksgiving followed by a prayer for protection.
After that we may move to an Immanuel Approach, and if needed, involve practices from HeartSync.
We typically finish a session with prayer.
What is Immanuel Prayer?
Let’s let Dr. Karl Lehman explain it:
What is the difference between Immanuel Prayer and HeartSync?
Within a Divine Encounter session, Immanuel Prayer is used to move our focus from a functional left brained, analytical frame of mind to a more peaceful, relaxed frame of mind.
Generally, a memory of a time when the recipient was really grateful or filled with awe will be used.
If the goal is to simply find Jesus in the encounter, we can do that here. Likewise, we can do dream interpretation from this place as well.
If the goal is for emotional or spiritual healing, we may continue to work with Jesus here or we may move into HeartSync, especially for circumstances involving deep woundedness or complex trauma.
The sessions can be very fluid for these reasons.
What is the difference between Immanuel Prayer and Immanuel Approach?
For the purposes of a Divine Encounter session, they are the same thing.
Can I expect to see and hear Jesus in the encounter?
Most people do, but many times it takes several sessions.
It’s the facilitator’s role to assist in working through any issues that might arise.
How many sessions will I need?
That depends on what you feel that you need.
Do you work with people with complex trauma?
Yes
Do you accept insurance?
No, but if that is a requirement, we suggest contacting Renewal Christian Counseling Center at https://renewalcenter.org/
How much does a session cost?
A session is $275 for 90 min.
Is financial assistance available?
Yes, on a limited basis.
Financial assistance may be available for: those undergoing extreme financial hardship, students, inner healing facilitators, ministers (active and retired), missionaries (active and retired), and first responders/law enforcement/chaplains.
Please schedule a free 30 minute orientation so we can discuss your situation.
Are you accepting new clients?
Yes, but the schedule tends to fill up quickly 24 to 48 hours.
In other words, people tend to schedule at the last minute.
How much lead time do you need?
You can schedule with a minimum of 4 hours leadtime, but those slots fill very quickly.
How and when do I pay for a session?
Payment is due at the time of scheduling using a credit or debit card.
Do you accept bitcoin?
Not yet.
Do you have a refund policy?
Generally, clients reschedule, although refunds may be issued on a one-time basis.
Do you record sessions?
There is a recording feature on Zoom that we can use upon request.
Zoom may retain a recording for 30 days.
Divine Encounter does not retain recordings.
See our disclaimer on our Legal page.
Are sessions confidential?
Absolutely.
On the scheduling page, there is a place where you can consent to permitting anonymized details to be shared for educational or training purposes.
There is an additional block for those individuals permitting anonymized details being shared for testimonial purposes.
Both of these options are disabled by default.
Who are you?
Sessions are facilitated by Richard Phillips, a retired software consultant, who has facilitated HeartSync sessions for 3 years.
I have been a born-again believer for 45 years and has served on church staff, altar teams, bus ministries, and missions trips.
I live in Texas with my wife of 30 years; we have one prophetically gifted adult son.
How much training do you have?
I received my qualification certification from HeartSync three years ago.
I have ministered Immanuel Prayer with a large team of practitioners ministering to staff from an international Christian campus ministry.
I have completed Internal Family Systems (IFS) Online Circle training. My wife and I received certification from Global Awakening’s Christian Healing Certification Program (for physical healing, innner healing, prophecy, and deliverance), and have served on altar teams with Andrew Wommack Ministries, as well as having ministered overseas with Leif Hetland’s Global Mission Awareness.
We have received training several times from Prophetic Company (Dan McCollam and Bethany Hicks), and have received Basic Sozo training.
Are you currently involved in any training?
I minister Monday-Friday. When I’m not in a session, I study inner healing or trauma related material.
I additionally attend conferences both in person or via Zoom, and am beginning study of Transformation Prayer Ministry.
How can I get in touch with you?
You can schedule a free 30 minute orientation (see the menu at the top of this page) or you can email me at rick@divineencounter.me
Will an intercessor be present during the session?
Generally, not.
I’ve done so many weekly sessions that it became impractical to find enough intercessors.
You may recommend an intercessor.
How many sessions have you conducted?
At the end of 2025, approximately 1,000.
What should I do if I prefer a female facilitator?
If you’d like a recommendation, I can provide one, but please note, the vast majority of my clients are women.
Do you work with people who are not Christians?
Yes, but this is a Christian faith based ministry.
Do you do dream interpretation?
Yes, Immanuel Prayer seems to work well for dream interpretation.
Instead of using a memory, the dream is used instead.
Do I have to have remembered the dream?
That would be helpful.
